Overhead bookshelf

I took one star off because there are some slight flaws in the surface of this desk. When I was putting it together, I found quite a few & was bummed. However, now that it’s all put together I am having a hard time spotting the imperfections.

What I love about this is it only comes out from the wall about 2.5 feet (which is the desk surface). I have a very small work room and wanted to convert it into a workroom / guest room and needed to free up some floor space. This did the trick.

The directions are difficult only because it’s not clear in the diagrams where the angles are in the rails. So take your time & think about it while you’re piecing it together. Otherwise you’ll be reassembling it. I did with the book shelves that match this & it’s very frustrating.

It really does look sharp once you start putting decorations & books & computer pieces on it. Very stylish & different. I bought 2 books cases to go on either side & it looks cool.

I would recommend a keyboard tray to add to it, the desk surface has plenty of room for mouse & keyboard, but it can be a little cramped if you like to game. It’s also a little high for me (I’m short!) to comfortably type.

All in all – it was well worth the price!

This is a good quality bookshelf for a reasonable price. Like another reviewer, I loathe particle board “furniture”, and it’s vetoed in my house. This is made of above average quality solid wood. Very sturdy, well engineered, and made with quality parts. It’s easy to assemble and can be done in 30 minutes. It’s nice because there is only one type of screw, and there is very little guesswork to put the thing together. We purchased two of them, to sit side-by-side in our guest room, and both match without issue and look great.

You can buy this shelf from Amazon at a cost that’s comparable to cheap particle board junk in a big box store. I have not doubts that most people will like this product. It’s just right for the price.

The only drawback is the height, so be sure to break out a measuring tape if you want to be sure. It tops out at about 3.5′. If it were a foot or two taller, I’d gladly pay 2x what this costs. Another reviewer commented about how smaller peices have multiple parts that were joined together to save costs. I will describe this in better detail… Some of the back supports (the thin wood beams, above the shelves) are made of two peices that are glued in the factory, ripped (sawed) and then finished. Basically, if you look closely, you will see a jigsaw seam where two peices of solid wood were joined. It’s not really an issue though, since you have to look closely to notice it, and the construction is still quite solid and well-built. This is only an issue with the small back-beams, and not the large “shelf” components.

Amazon shipped it in only *2 days*. Can’t beat that. Be aware that you’ll be paying about 1/3 of the bookcase’s cost in shipping. Still, it’s well worth it. I’m very pleased with the bookcase and Amazon’s service.

I bought this for a good price on sale. It was missing a piece and I had to send away for the piece. It took quite a while for the piece to arrive and although it was free apparently I was meant to send in my proof of purchase to get the piece for free (which wasn’t in the instructions and may have been why it took so long).

It was easy to put together myself and it didn’t take much time. I was disappointed that one of the shelves had some faults in the finishing. Once together the bookshelf looks nice from a distance, I like the color of the finish. However, up close I don’t think that it looks like a great quality piece. It’s not terribly sturdy, it does wobble a bit when it’s empty. I would not load it up with textbooks, but it’s not too flimsy either. The shelves are small and don’t hold much, I’m unable to put a few of my taller books on them. All considered it’s probably better than other options in the same price range. I am considering buying another one, but mainly so that it can match the one I already have.
